For a newbie to figure out Autostar can be abit intimidating at first, but once you know what buttons to push its actually automatic. Get to know your scope in the daylight hours is much easier. Once you figure the autostar settings it opens up a whole new world of viewing. Alignment stars are always the brightest in nearby field so not necessary to know the sky at the start. Love viewing planets and never tire watching a moons shadow cross he Jovian disc of Jupiter, faaaaantastic !

  • Is pricy but exceptional optical system and fun locater makes for a fun outings. Purchased mine around 450 did note some on sale with lighter tripod for 299 great buy for this design of scope. Now will have to check Orion on their models are still available as Celestron get great reviews. Its abit small for planetary detail but will introduce you to the brighter fuzzy objects I love checking out the fainter tho large Owl Nebula, better sky conditions flashes in and out of view, in this scope.

  • Yes, defihitely, it indeed tracks the objects even in higher powers.

    Thanks for your inquiry

  • Note looks like these may be discontinued, sad as been around awhile and a proven design reasonably priced telescope. Celestron has the nexstar series in same price range and believe a 4 inch muskatov for a fun small scope should give proven sharp image clarity as well.

  • Even with a compass heading the autostar will put you reasonably close, but is mandatory to have the correct time, and date please. Also have things level, the supplied compass eyepiece will take of things for you there. If your familiar with the sky indeed point north to Polaris the north star, as will put you withing 1/2 degree, works fine in low power views. Have observed most of the brighter deep sky with ease and planetary outstanding for this aperture. Gives nice images for 90mm.
