For more than thirty years the Steelhead anglers and fly tiers on the West Coast of the USA and Canada have taken Spey flies to a unique place. Here on the East Coast and Mid West the tradition is being heightened with the serge in Spey Casting and the enthusiasm to swing flies.

I offer this video as a way to show the basic steps to make these saddle hackle style Spey Flies created by the great Syd Glasso. Also notice the continued use of the body floss for the dubbing. This is a unique aspect of Syd Glasso's style.

  • i just started tying the other day so far i've tied a couple wooly boogers and some made up patern if a dry fly maybe one day ill be able to tie something as nice as this

  • @tpd513 The Wooly Bugger is a great place to start. The reason I say that is because that fly catches a great deal of fish. Work on that fly in black, olive and brown. Then tie black olive and brown in a one marabou feather leach fly with a copper bead on front. Keep tying flies that will work where you fish so your collection of materials grows in what you will need to replace. Tie as crazy as you want sometimes to learn and be creative. I reclaim many hooks from old unwanted flies.

  • sick video.
