The SADF had free reign over Angola for the entire time they were there. Even though they were out numbered 10 to 1. And why do you think the SADF wanted to capture Luanda? What would have been the point?

i don't doubt the T55's were better but I doubt there tank crew were better trained than the South Africans.

typo..120 miles back...read about it from Chester Crocker..but in the end only the soldiers "payed" for the super powers...

the cubans had everything..but a small SADF / Unita stopped up to 50000 of them...what a shame..they were useless..not one Olifant tank was shot out..mine fields got 3 Olifant tanks; it was so embarissing shooting out the "superiour" T55 ect because the rounds went right through them..their migs were even worse...we only had 2 batteries of G5's that stopped the in their tracks..read about Lomba river...they were chased for 12back to cutio....you live in a dream world -

Of course you wanted to take Luanda in fact you even admitted it...... You said that you wanted to stop the Communist rule in Angola... Well YOU WANTED TO KEEP ANGOLA FOR YOURSELF AND WE STOPPED YOU.... And the Olifants didn't had anything over our T-55 in fact our few T-55 were destroyed by Ratels instead by Olifants it is embarresing how an APC can do more damage than your tank. the T-55 has proved a lot better than the Olifant.
