@dwayne7981 Merchant is a turncoat, like so many people. They dont know it themselves, but they simply go with the general opinion, void of any kind of original thinking. Most people are sheeps, dont you know ?

@bvd1022 Yeah so true, Holmes would be a legend today, he'd definitely dominate the division I think. He's the guy that beat Ray Mercer in his 40s and gave hell to other great fighters, like Evander Holyfield at an old age and held the championship for 7 and a half years. And yeah, I agree, Holmes was really the winner of the Spinks rematch.

@truebeliever786 and is still one of the most underrated champions in history. Wishes there was another Larry Holmes and fighters of his era in the Heavyweight division today. Perhaps the division would be held in higher regard in America than it is right now. Just one man's opinion.

@truebeliever786 I am a boxing writer... I spend many hours watching old fight footage. Although I'd love to see 15 rd fights be brought back for world title fights, no one will be able to convince me that Spinks won the rematch versus Holmes. Many say if fights were 15 rounds the results would be different in the case of many controversial decisions, that's one where I just feel the judges were wrong and it was 15 rounds. Sad that Holmes didn't get his due until his mid 40s -

@bvd1022 I soooooo agree with you, I'm glad you appreciate Larry Holmes' talent, he is truly one of the most under appreciated fighters in all boxing. He's a ring legend and on my list I rank him the 4th greatest Heavyweight of all time, behind only Jack Johnson, Muhammad Ali and Joe Louis...

@bvd1022 larry holmes is nothing he has no magic!
@thodone this was when Don King took over so everyone who was responsible for building Tyson and developing his skills were let go after this fight, imagine had Tyson kept his original team he probably would have broke Marciano's record or at least matched Larry Holmes when Holmes nearly pulled it off in 85 before he lost to spinks the first time. Great era.

@thodone I disagree Larry Holmes was a great fighter and I would argue one of if not the most under rated Heavyweight champions of all-time.
I won't argue so much about Spinks winning the first fight against Holmes because Holmes fought injured in that fight and thus couldn't execute his offense to the best of his ability.
Now in regard to the rematch Holmes was robbed and 24 years hasn't changed my opinion on that fight.
