Not the equal of Francesca or Romeo but in no way is this a bad piece! It's a great composition all the same, though maybe lacking the 'big tune' of the other symphonic poems.

As the gears of war turn, and the mist lifts upon the landscape of battle, a lone horseman rides forth, his horn call rises above the armies and they fear his shrill swell of brass, for brass accompanies steel, and steel accompanies death. death is what infidels shall receive, all those who trespass on mother russia shall fear our horde....to war we ride, sons of war, sons of satan into glory ride.

For perhaps the first time I see the play as it is meant to be, a lone man freezing in isolation, in the midst of a barren land devoid of hope. Wow!
