Paris, FRANCE - 1996 Trophée Lalique, Pairs' Free Skate - Sarah Abitbol and Stéphane Bernadis of France had to stop about a minute into their program when Stéphane tripped over his toepick at top speed and slammed to the ice, landing on his family jewels. Obviously winded and in pain, he was unable to continue, and the pair had to stop their skate. After getting an OK by the referee to reskate at the end of the final flight of pairs, they skated off to have Stéphane checked out to make sure he did not injure anything else.

  • When you see how easy it is to have a mishap like that, you wonder that it doesn't happen more often.
