Pandemic influenza preparedness and response

Many Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies have been preparing for an influenza pandemic since 2006. Efforts were accelerated when the WHO declared the pandemic stage on 12 June 2009. Early and adequate preparedness activities can reduce transmission, and avoid illness from developing into more severe respiratory disease, particularly in crowded and vulnerable communities. Preparedness and response activities in each country are unique and adapted to local contexts.
