Am I the only person who thinks people are making too big of a deal of this? If the goalie got injured, yeah, it stinks, but it doesn't look like Shaw was trying to hit him in the head. If you go behind the net as a goalie to play the puck, you're liable to get hit. It's the same thing with a goalie coming out of his crease. If they're not in the crease, I don't see why it should be illegal to hit them. It's probably a bad idea because the other team will be gunning for you, but not illegal.

in a game where you can fight people on the other team this should not be a big deal. it is obvious smith was fine and he was faking most of his injury. shaw did not intentional try to hit the goalie. if it was intentional he would have lowered his shoulder to hit him. instead it looked like he was slowing up to avoid most contact. anyway the rule about hitting a goalie is ok. you cant hit him in his goalie box. fair game. but once he steps out of it he should be just like any other player.

You think that just because it's a goalie mask it's going to stop and completely cushion a hit like that? Sure, they're fiberglass, but the hit reverberates inside. As previously mentioned, this is a guy with a history of CONCUSSIONS. Shaw could have sold the hit? Look at the position Smith's head is in at 0:46, Shaw CLEARLY initiated contact. Smith's stick was down on the ice the entire time, as he was playing the puck. Shaw has to make more of an effort NOT to hit Smith in this situation.
