  • @TheCanadianPrairies Me too. M2 was the game I spent the most time on by far. CA said they were simplifying the AI in S2 compared to ETW so hopefully it will be better. It's too bad the S2 units all look pretty much the same though :( This is one way some more historical accuracy would be good for a game bc the units would look so diverse and more "ornate"--but we could still tell them apart easily bc they all wear banners. I love the new S2 interface though. Like a prettier version of Shogun 1.

Yeah. Empire Total War also featured a crappy AI. I could storm North America and the British would not care in the slightest to defend their own damn land. Neither do the French, Spanish, etc. They don't organize fleets, etc. They just use remnants of slain armies in provinces to raid towns and then, eventually, try to take back the main city. I hate what they did to the user interface. All units look the same. MTW II had its flaws but I greatly enjoyed it much more.

  • @TheCanadianPrairies I have higher hopes for Shogun 2 as well. I think the addition of all the environmental effects looks like it's helping. I also hope the textures are more real looking (they sure look it so far). Empire battles just felt like... everything was separate pieces, or something. Even the ground looked like it didn't match somehow. Like over-contrast. It just didn't feel real enough. Like you said, M2 was better.

Same here. I think some more time should have been spent on it. I had more fun with Medieval II. I liked how in that game the individual troops could have blood, dirt, etc on them. When I played Empire, and I zoomed out, it was like looking at a more updated Medieval I. I missed the attention to detail. I'll play Shogun II, though. Hopefully it'll be better.

  • @TheCanadianPrairies I feel the same way. I thought Empire would be much more immersive and enhanced. Turned out to look and feel cheap imo and the land battle mechanics weren't really optimized for the era so it was kind of messy. (Sea battles looked beautiful though but were awkward and weren't fun after the first couple I played)

  • hopefully total war is coming full circle and the game after this will be Rome Total war updated to todays graphics

  • @Impavidius

Nope. I enjoy all periods of history. I'm just saying that I wasn't really impressed by ETW as I thought I would.

  • @TheCanadianPrairies Perhaps because you didin't like that type of war. Medieval 2 is the weakest one yet, and Rome is probably the strongest.

  • It looks a lot better than Empire. Empire, I think, was the weakest TW game. Medieval II was more fun.
