Thorazine was introduced in the United States in a huge marketing campaign conducted by Smith Kline & French in the 1950's. This was the first neuroleptic or antipsychotic drug and was given to millions of people when they never even knew how it worked. If that wasn't bad enough they encouraged people to take it "long term" when they never even knew what the effects would be. ( Dr joanna Moncrieff - The Myth of the Chemical Cure.
She has also recently been on a radio show called "madness radio" and you can listen to her or download the show at this link:

Things to google include:
NAMI - National Alliance for the Mentally Ill- and its funding from big pharma.
Dr Joseph Biederman from Harvard Medical School & his reseach into ADHD and promoting medication when he was getting thousands of dollars from big pharma.

Seroquel the drug used to treat schizophrenia causes diabetes and Astra Zeneca tried to bury data.

Seroxat/Paxil (antidepressant) Glaxo Smith Kline used illegal and deceptive reporting. They tried to show that it worked on children despite failed clinical trials. The documentary Panorama have done 4 shows on the subject. Some are on You Tube. It emerged that Charles Nemeroff former chairman of the Dept psychiatry at Emory University received nearly a million dollars from Glaxo Smith Kline however disclosed a smaller amount.

Dr Erick Turner - 2008 New England Journal of medicine found cherry picking in psychiatric journals. the study looked at clinical trials involving 12 different antidepressants involving just over 12,500 patients. The danger is that the psychiatrists reading the journals are oblivious to the fraud and are given the impression that the drugs are highly effective. This story made international headlines at the time.

  • as far as these whistle blowers claiming the drugs are habit forming.

They don't address the critical issue of the drugs being complrtely useless and equivalent to sugar pills. By saying they are habit forming they give the impression they have at least some clinical use. The only psych drugs that are habit forming are benzos and they have been phased out in the early 1980's by copanies pushing their new SSRIs

  • This doesn'tstop with psychiatry. Every prescription drug is for profit only. They all interfere with normal cellular funcitoning which is the definition of disease.

"HIV" has never been isolated or purified. It was AZT that killed a generation of people (hundreds of thousands in the US).

  • sounds like Ali G

  • Want to know what antidepressants did for me? Impotence from the age of about 13 to 20, thanks mom and dad.

  • Pharma is Dictating standard practice and "managed care." It really is a fraud. And it is largely paid by our tax money.

  • GenericChristJesus

THe answers to your anxiety are within you and in proper nutrition and avoidance of toxins like mercury and pesticides. He is not discounting anyone's suffering. He is saying that your problems need not be in the purview of the all knowing psychiatrists to diagnose and and treat. Metnal illness does not exist but that doesn't mean your anxieity doesn't. I suffer from the most menacing and profound OCD you could ever imagine but I would never go back to Psychiatry

  • @GenericChristJesus Y do u suffer from severe anxiety? where u constantly shouted at when u were young, were u made to feel like ur life was over if u didn't do well in exams? There are mental-disorders from environmental-influences and there are mental-disorders because the brain is physically screwed-up, but psychiatry doesn't differentiate between the two. The symptoms of anxiety will get treated with drugs regardless of the cause. One cause just needs 3rd-party thinking from the sufferer.

  • @billysue2 Well alot of people do think that mental illnesses are real diseases caused by an imbalance of chemicals. If you type "schizophrenia neurological disease" on google, you can see a few examples.

Also if drug companies are influencing clinical practise then psychiatrists need to speak up otherwise they are being complicit.

  • @caketheory if mood is altered, physiology is altered, thats how it works. No psychiatrist would say that drugs are fixing chemical imbalances, its way too simplistic a response, theres little proof for it anyway .They might say that to apatient to make it easy to understand. The problem is the drug companies are influencing clinical practise, not the pschiatry themselves

  • Ok I see what you're saying now. I agree that psychiatrist should be more honest, but they are not and never will be, because they are the main one's always trying to push a bunch of different medications on to everyone. The work very closely with the big Pharma, companies. They get lots of ( perks ) for helping the big pharma, companies . Paid vacations, free hotel stays, free expensive lunches for them and their staff and famailies etc.I get my Xanax from a regular medical doc, not psyche docs
