  • Armand Assante, the Argos Sylvester Stallone

  • Oh but large areas of desert in both the US and Australia are still out of bounds, even forty to fifty years after the A bombs tests happened. In nuclear war nuclear power stations would be be targeted, whose radioative half lives are in the tens of thousands of years. Billions would die that's a fact.

  • Brian Brown is great actor and he was great in this.

  • Well Shute didn't know about nuclear winter something that wasn't talked about until as recently as the 1980s. The Karl Sagan Erlic's research book on nuclear winter was very influential in the debate, back then, if I remember. But it wouldn't be just the danger of radiation and nuclear winter that would end lif on earth, it would also be the severve depletion of the ozone layer cuased by the very dust cloud itself.

  • But that was only one nuclear weapon and it was small one not even near a megatonne, compared to the ones that are around today. Today Hiroshima type nukes are only used in artillery shells.

  • Nuclear war wouldn't be so bad today. China has a lot of nuclear weapons and so does India and Pakistan. If the latter had nuclear war, according to research that has been done, they would tip the earth into a nuclear winter just by nuking each other. That would be pretty catastrophic for all of us.

  • The book is very dated with social conventions that have gone for ever. It was good that Shute's novel was brought up to date. To frank Australia then was increabily racist with a whites only immigration policy that excluded ethenic minorities. A Day facto South Africa where aboriginies were treated like dogs with no rights even to vote. There's nothing of that in Shute's novel not one mention of them at all.

  • well their not dead yet. Anyway they seem pretty HT up about the rest of the world copping it if you watch it all. Perhaps there living life to full one day at a time like we all should do. What would you wanted them to have done mop around all day until the radiation got there?

  • As an American I can say what the doctor said at 6:15 is sadly correct.
