Look, I wasn't trying to come off as the "arbiter" of music, I might not know much but I do know soulless crap when I hear it.
You could be right, though. Maybe one day, generations in the future will look at "Poker Face", "Thong Song", "Soulja Boy" and "She thinks my Tractors Sexy" and hold it in the same respect as songs such as these.
You dont have to be able to sing, or play an instrument to be a musician anymore, as long as you're hot and willing to sell a product, you're in.

Time will tell whether those songs will be revered. The way I hear it, J.S. Bach was all but forgotten for decades until Albert Schweitzer revived interest in him. In books, "Moby Dick" was originally panned but now it's considered a classic. In movies, "It's a Wonderful Life" was initially ignored, and now people can't get enough of it. There have been many painters of fine art who died in poverty, but now their paintings sell for millions. "Thong Song" might well become a deathless classic.

Forget marketing and capitalism. I think one of my points is that it's folly to think that there's a "correct" way to write a song or to perform it. It wasn't so long ago that the general public used to sing - express and emote - all the time, but now almost no one sings because we got used to hearing "correct" performances on recordings.

To view a piece like this then see people debating mindlessly over the internet is really pedantic and pointless. Just shut up and listen, you all fail.
