France shuts 'jungle' migrant camp

France has defended its decision to close a makeshift migrant camp in Calais, saying it has become a haven for people-smuggling gangs and a no-go zone for local people.

The camp known as "The Jungle" houses up to 2,000 migrants, many of them from Somalia, Darfur, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

They live there in unsanitary conditions in makeshift tents and shelters.

Every night many of them attempt to cross into England by jumping on trucks or boarding trains going through the Channel Tunnel.

French immigration minister Eric Besson said the decision to close the camp next week would send a strong message to people-traffickers that the route from Calais to Britain is shut.

I do feel sorry for the small minority who do want a better life, but Britain is full, full to the max and it is starting to piss people off. What makes them want to come to Britain in the first place?, a land of opportunity ? no, plenty of room? no, cash in hand benefit?, yes. No fucking wonder Britain is on its knees. We are at war with most of these immigrants countries, so why let them in? Britain lost its "Great" a long time ago. Britain the soft touch of the world. Send them back.
