You can do a little or a lot with Text using Vegas.

i put in text and made sure it was transparent but it still fades out to black and no matter how short i put the time of the text it goes over all the videos that i have next to each other. HELP PLEASE!!

You have to have the cursor for the timeline sitting on top of the Text Layer if you want to see what it happening.
