Gas Spring assisted retracting staircase for loft / attic access in my garage. No need for motorised system or electrics. Quick and easy to use and is light to pull down and push up. After an initial push, it retracts up under it's own power. Solid wood staircase construction with stainless steel hinge mechanism. Very strong and sturdy with quiet operation and wooden steps insure non slip when ascending / descending to the room in the roof. The stairway is fully retractable into the ceiling joists and is held in both up and down positions by the gas-spring struts. Another succesfull DIY project.

  • Hi I love how it works, can you buy the gas spring open and close kits?.

    With thanks

    Duane

  • @MrDuanewarren

If you send me your E.Mail address, I can forward some info to you on my rectracting staircase

  • Would love to get more details about the materials you used for this job. I would rather have full stairs to my attic as opposed to a folding ladder. If you do have more details I would love it if you could forward them to me. Cheers Dave

  • Your design is extremely well thought-out. I am interested in building this for my self. Could you help me with the hinge that you used to attach the staircase to the ceiling joist, the size of the stringers and threads, where to purchase the gas spring, also the species of the wood used. Sorry for all the questions. Hope you could help.

  • I have to agree with roastpike, how big is your vehicle storage area? You must have many modes of transport to warrent that much car polish, don't know about the calf muscles but the right bicep must be impressive, almost crablike?

  • Love the staircase. Just what I've been looking for in a project I'm planning. Could you please send me more info and pictures? My email is dills@hotmail.co.uk Thanks.
