Organist and keyboardist Jim Alfredson reviews the new rotary cabinet simulator from Neo Instruments, the Ventilator. Be sure to read his full review on the organissimo website, http://www.organissimo.org/ventreview_1.htm

For the review, Jim is using a Hammond-Suzuki XK3 / XK traditional system along with a custom cable (designed by Yahoo XK3 Users Group member Sven Wannäs) that allows the Ventilator to be controlled from the XK3. The Ventilator's stereo outputs were recorded direct into Cubase 4.5 via a Presonus Firepod with no EQ or other processing.

Please check out Jim's recordings with organissimo at www.organissimo.org.

  • One of the best B3 players I've heard on here...you are up to par with the big boys...Lonnie Smith, Joey De, Barbara D. and Rhoda. Very enjoyable...I am buying my Neo unit today

  • @radio686 Thank you! Please consider buying an organissimo CD; that's my jazz organ group.

  • Wow, great playing! Given a choice between the Neo & the XK's built-in simulator, which would you choose? And although I appreciate your photog's obigatory close-up of your face while playing, it's almost unncecessary in these youtube demos....

  • @emortland My wife was behind the camera and for some reason she thinks I'm cute, so blame her for the face close-ups! :)

Compared to the Leslie sim in the XK3, the Ventilator wins, hands-down. It's not even close. I do not own an XK3c so I cannot compare the Ventilator to it.

  • PHUCK, your good ;-)

  • i wish organissimo would come to Winnipeg Manitoba!

  • Quick question for anyone. I have a Concord and was wondering if I can donate it to a church if thats possible? That way I can buy this keyboard

  • Amazing!!!!!!!

  • excellent demo! great playing. So, my take on all the reviews I've read that Neo has incorporated close-to exact doppler ingredient into this effect?

  • Jim no Doubt you got chops, just wondering if you have checked out the Studio Logic NUMA Organ, Joey D, helped to put it together, just wondering what you think about it? if you've had the chance to play one yet? I own one myself just wondering how the Ventilator would come into play with it, I don't think you would need one with the Numa? just my opinion..what's yours?

  • I'm a guitarist and have the Strymon Lex, and thought it was the best. However from what I've seen of this I'd have to say it's been succeeded!

    Truly amazing playing too Jim!!!

  • Jim,

Something tells me you could make a tin drum and an old shoe sound good! Incredible playin', man!

And you make that ventilator sound guuuuuuuud! Gonna look into it!

  • I love my ventilator. I also have the remote switch which means I can click it on and off with my feet.

  • at last a decent demo of a piece 'quitment... not only that but this product sounds sweet and i will buy one of these if i find a good deal... Jim , thanks and I think Neo should employ you to demo/sell their wares....
