100% Rotor RPM at just 15 PSI - When I pulled collective getting light on the skids, I had to increase throttle from 15 to about 20psi. The first lift off MR RPM dropped below 90% and the low RPM red light came on -- I increased throttle but rotor RPM did not recover fast enough so I set her down (whew, time warp, old man adrenaline rush baby!) For the next liftoff I spooled her up to 23psi, 105% MR, and held IGE (In Ground Effect) hover a few feet for 11 seconds, rotor RPM held steady - success! Power to spare! I flew a turbine powered ultralight helciopter!

  • Do you have N2, ITT, or EGT gauges? It's real dangerous if you don't. Stay safe!

  • @SketchRC I have only EGT (Exhaust Gas Temp), you can see it at Youtube search: "larrys gas".

  • What is the present empty weight of this new turbine configured ship? It looks like it should have lost weight (and a reduction gear?) in the transition from 2 cylinder piston to turbine.

  • @r22accipiter Yes! Yes! It came in at 245 pounds. FAA FAR Part 103 allows 254 lbs, which means I can add 9 pounds of goodies.

  • Larry, my name is Jenson. I'm 22 years old. Just starting out, about to leave the home nest and make my way in life. Leave for Coast Guard boot camp here in a few days. My dream is to fly helicopters some day - and if I'm lucky enough - to own one! After watching theses videos I feel so much more capable of achieving that dream.

I also just found my definition of "Cool old guy!" :) Take care and fly safe sir! Your vids bring huge smiles to my face!

  • @Champ7ACMan Thanks! Hey, you just defined "Cool young guy!".

Dreams are where we live our highest. {Dream fulfillment ==(luck + work)}.

  • @LarryCanFly WHAT !???! May I ask, are feeding that turbine for fuel ?? Never seen that much smoke out of a turbine. Years ago, I repowered a 29 ford with an old Boeing B-210 from an old Army "Bird Dog" (ala 50's program). I could smoke the hides off them rear "cheater" slicks with the best of the Big inch V-8's of the era (early 60's). I see it's been about 1 1/2 yrs since you posted this video..are you still with this project or ?? Great job and video..Thanks & stay with it.

  • Is that a "2 stroke turbine" using gasoline/oil mixture ? ha ha ha
