At the beginning of Serenity you see a map of explored space; it's one solar system with about 11 planets.

In the Firefly Justice System the people are represented by two different yet equally important groups. The Alliance who harass and stalk 17 year old girls and the Browncoats who awesome. These are their stories. (Also guys talking about the gravity, put your physics books away and just be satisfied that they're all too cool to be impacted by a lack of gravity.)

@gorgan01 The RPG guidebook says 211 terraformed moons and planets, and a deleted scene from episode 1 says 73(or something like that). It isn't 11.

@codelyokowilliam Anything with mass creates gravity by bending space (Einstien's theory of relativity). The trick is getting dense enough mass to create a strong enough gravitational field. A micro-singularity might work (tiny black hole) but it would be fucking dangerous.

@NotTheLaw Even in the Serenity movie they say "dozens of planet and hundreds of moons" were in the White star system. Holy crap though if 215 of those were terraformed and settled...
