Trailer for the documentary The Man is Dead. Currently in production.
This film is about the filmmaker's uncle, who left Rhode Island in the 1960s, when he was being pursued by the FBI for selling acid on the University of Rhode Island campus.
He fled to NYC, where he was signed to Sire Records by Seymour Stein and Richard Gottehrer. At the same time, he established himself as a big time hash dealer, selling to some of the most influential musical acts of the time.
He was on top of the world, but he never felt that he deserved it. He carried so much guilt for leaving his family that he developed crippling stage fright and anxiety. He returned to Rhode Island and got a job as a fish cutter.
Some brilliant people believed in him and converged around him to make his records. Forty years later, they still believe in him and are converging around us to tell his story.
