I like to go into cold stone with 100 dollars worth of ones and just put them in the tip jar 1 by 1 just so I can let them remember that when it comes down to it they are prostitutes ;)

I think they do it mostly to attract more customers, IDK, but I have some friends who went there too (in Tochigi, far from the big cities lol) and the attendants asked my friends if they could sing for them lol, but they were not expecting any tips.. well, anyway, it's fun!
