The San Francisco Police Department is currently pushing a new law that would make it illegal to rest on any sidewalk in San Francisco.

It is already illegal to obstruct sidewalks and to harass pedestrians; the new law would only be applied in cases where a person is sitting or lying down without blocking passage or bothering pedestrians.

On March 10, 2010, the Department presented this proposal to the Police Commission. Commissioner Petra DeJesus asked Commander James Dudley of Metro to clarify.
