Loved the references to Gershwin and the Can Can
-
It now has 100 times 106 hits. You can rest easy.
-
A classic recording. One of my favorites for 30 years.
-
This is a Richie Powell arrangement,Donald Byrd also did a great version on a live cd with Yusef Lateef, Barry Harris, Benard McKinney,Frank Gant and Alvin Jackson

I'm glad to see 5,217 views on 1/13/2011. I remember listening to this and many of Clifford's recording, over and over, when I was a teenager. Brownie is even more of an influence to me than Miles. I credit my best playing to those "lessons". Thanks for sharing this one.

I have this somewhere on my old reel/reel tape recorder. A live recording I
remember with Max introducing "our stella trumpet player Clifford Brown"
never a truer intro!

@thomaski Sadly, he WAS a genius.

Donald Byrd,Yusef Lateef,Bernard McKinney,Barry Harris,Alvin Jackson And Frank Gant have one of the greatest arrangements ever of Parisian Thoroughfare on a a live album done in 1955.It's very comparable too this set.The added horn Bernard McKinney adds some very rich color too the arrangement.

@anthrax1218 what is there to say? The music is perfect, and people don't have the kind of standards they once did. I'm just glad it's posted.
no comments??!!!
This band was so tight and so good that it's hard to imagine only 106 views. I don't understand what other music deserves views. Max Roach is the man, Harold Land is superb and of course the one and only Clifford Brown. I think Clifford has got to be my second favorite trumpeter to pick up the instrument, that's behind Miles.
People need to know about this music. Richie Powell covering his brother's standard. Ricardo Ray did a great version too
