For those trying to rationalize Manny's departure as a good thing, you might want to look at Papi's stats since his departure. At the same time, it's all about pitching, and let's face it, the Sox have a plethora of young arms to win it multiple times. Their scouts are genius, and they make the Yankees scouts look like pinheads. Forget about high priced free agent fights, the battle is won in the farm systems. The Sox have had several prospects they've developed who have panned out.
