I would love to hear Florence doing this and giving it that feel and soul she posesses!
But Diana sounds good on it not sounding so nasal and I think they were still The Primmettes at this time as there is a 3 part harmony on it!
Was that the 1st version of Buttered Popcorn because they recorded it again

Diana is a great singer. You people think that everybody has to sound like Flo to be a good singer. Flo and Diana were great singers, but they had tottally different sounding voices. Dosn't mean that one is better

The Marvelettes' version of this song was much better. Diana sounds too "cramped" and nasal. Wanda Young of The Marvelettes was more "soulful" and "sexy".

On this day in 1961 {March 9th} the Supremes released their first single, "I Want A Guy", on the Tamla Record label...
The Supremes were a quartet at the time; Barbara Martin left the group in early 1962...
Three years and five months later on August 22nd, 1964 "Where Did I Love Go" became their first of twelve #1 records...
In 1962 the Marvelettes covered "I Want A Guy"; it was the B-side of "Twistin' Postman", which peaked at #34 on the Top 100...
R.I.P. Florence Ballard {1943 - 1976}...

Mary had all the married men (four tops, temps) Mary was a hoe & a smut bucket. Diana on the other hand had the man that mattered (Berry Gordy) sweety and the daughter to guarntee her legacy would be secured: learn it sweety.

Damn... Hot Buttered Popcorn was the worst. I see why Berry never gave Flo another lead; that shit sounds like crap on top of crap; but sidebar Miss Ross turned I want a guy. And that's what a true diva does--Mary & Flo ain't nothing but common (Effie White voice)

Diane Renay, who had two hits in 1964, "Blue Navy" and "Kiss Me Sailor".

Yeah, it's Diane Renay. The photo was taken on Dick Clark's Caravan of Stars in 1964 at the time "Where Did Our Love Go" hit. Allow me to correct the lead singer on the Marvelettes' version of "I Want A Guy". It's Wanda, not Gladys. It was more suited to Wanda's sultry style and she did put her mark on it. "Buttered Popcorn" was a throwaway, to be sure. Should have been the B-side of "Who's Lovin' You". Nothing against Flo, mind you, but Diana's side wins hands down.
