Professor Benny Morris gives a lecture about Jewish refugees from Arab states after 1948. Firstly he describes the relation between Jews and Arabs since the time of Muhammed. Jews and Christians (dhimmi) were always subject to supression in Islamic countries.
to be fair, was the medieval age a time of acceptance of religious minorities in any country?????? Jews were treated in a abominable way by the muslims for sure but thats not because of the quran. Its because of prejudices in that era of history which did exist everywhere. Also jews in muslim countries had opportunities that jews in europe didnt have in terms of employment and prominence. There was even a jewish general under one of the sultanats at the time. Was there one in medieval europe????
because of what happened to the palestinians, and the closer proximity of the local populations of jews in these middle eastern countries, and for the zionists to have a population to govern, they were brought/expelled to the new zionist state and lived as second class citizens as sephardic jews to the european ashkhenazi jews. they lost most of their local customs, arabic language, and were frowned upon as not even jewish, it was a zionist numbers game....
what a bunch of propaganda!! sephardic jews lived throughout the middle east before the creation of israel. Because at that time there was no distinction between zionists and different jewish people (sephardic and ashkenazi) they were lumped together as a whole people ( which is sad, but just the human mob nature). Before the creation of israel, jews numbered more than 100,000 in iran, 100,000 in iraq, 10,000 in yemen, and had significant numbers in palestine, syria, egypt, and morocco.
This sounds like a hatchet job. It's not history so much as a list of bad things that happened over thousands of years. What was the context of the treatment of Jews compared to the other minorities in these countries, of which there were more than the two he mentions here? He only mentions Christians as the other minority, for some reason, but he doesn't elaborate on them.
Good first section of the recap. It was a huge tragedy what the Arab world did to their Jewish populations, many of whom may have lived on that soil before the Arabs ever conquered them.
One thing that was not mentioned (or did I miss it?) was the forceful wearing of the Jewish star of David (to identify Jews, as the Nazis did) in Iraq and other areas. Perhaps that's in part 2? If not it was mentioned by members of Jews for Justice from Arab countries.
