The jewel of Varian,Inc is its Optics, NMR and Vacuum business. This will bring an added dimension to Agilent. The Melbourne manufacturing site is a world class operation. Be aware that manufacturing optical equipment isnt like a gas chromatograph where things are just bolted together.

Get rid of all administration, managers and offices. Bring the Optics labs inside an Agilent office

  • 1.5 Billion for the acquisition of Varian, Inc.

Agilent needs to dump or sell Varians chromatography business. Perhaps keeping the Ion Trap and Specialty detectors. Varian is a top heavy company. The metaphor is a Roman war ship ala Ben Hur. They want the ship to go faster, instead of dumping somebody on the top deck, they throw one of the oar people overboard and they cannot understand why the ship doesnt go faster.

  • who is this? one of the fake employee actors on the video that couldn't possibly be that happy? I'd be upset if I didn't get my Sweet and Low and had to take out my own garbage.

  • I used to work for one of those acquisitions. Dysfunctional is way too gracious of a description.

  • Agilent is probably one of the most disfunctional companies I've worked for. The've lost billions on aquisitions that they then don't know what to do with. Bill lacks vision for the company's technologies. He's slowly selling off each business as the company finds its not capable of running them. Eventually there will be nothing left of the company. I know one company they sold was bringing in around $1m revenue, after they sold it it brought in $20m the first quarter.
