My best current scores for the stages in world 1 are: 957 953 966 978 939 967 955 924 954 959 The total was 9552 points. However, that wasn't done in one full run...

Wow, what I typed before must be confusing; I forgot 1-4 and 1-5. Anyway, I made some improvements last night, so now my scores are: 956 953 965 975 940 972 955 925 957 956 Matching your 972 on 1-6 was particularly brutal. I must have done it 30 times to get the right pixel precision falling off the ledges and turning around to get the block.

I was working on this some more, and my current scores are: 956 953 964 (which I might be able to improve further; I'll check when I get home) 970 955 923 956 956 For a total of 9545... You're still beating me on four levels, but my scores are all on the real console. Really, TASing is unnecessary, as speed isn't important; accuracy and making as few moves as possible is.

Wow, I was hoping to make up 200-300 points on Stages 1-3 to keep from having to reduce my time too much on the later stages (where I can undoubtedly scrape together a lot of point improvements, but where messing up becomes much more of an issue). I ended up making up over 1000 points, to where I only needed 98 points for EX-10 (all extra stages are unlocked upon completing the regular game and getting at least 165,000 points). I was able to easily make up the difference on 4-6 alone. :)

I'm using this to try and bring my total score up ever-so-slightly (I still need a little over 1100 points to unlock stage EX-10), and on my second try of 1-1, I got 956, non-tool-assisted and on actual hardware! Not sure what I did differently, but you probably have a few unnecessary fractions of a step you could cut (I doubt 956 is the best possible either, as, like I said, I was playing in real-time).

If I look at my scoreboard of Stage 1, I'm currently 16 points AHEAD of yours! It may be somewhat different if I'm going all out on Stage 1 level by level.
