North Atlantic crossing Naples to New York City on the Italian Line Michelangelo in Summer of 1965.
Original 8mm movies made by my father Carey T. (Sonny) Davis of family and atmosphere of the crossing. Cruise Director Lido shown in a "cameo" on the water slide.
Michelangelo and sister ship Raffaleo pass at sea in middle of video.
Beautiful ship at the end of an era - Ciao and Grazzi Italian Line!
Memories...thank you for posting this wonderful video!

@historiachibcha1
At the very beginning of the video, it's the Cristoforo Colombo you see (twin of the Andrea Doria, but by now painted white). At about 1:13, you see the Leonardo da Vinci (the funnel is slightly tapered in the back) moored on the other side of Naples's Stazione Marittima, just as the Michelangelo has begun sailing. I only wish there were some views of the beautiful Michelangelo still at the dock in Naples before the departure.

Michaelangelo was broken up in Alang, Raffaello remains a burned out, sunken, wreck in Iran. What visual feasts - ships that died far too young, without earning back their investment. What speed, crossing the Atlantic, too! Thank you for the film.

I LEFT NAPLES ON AUGUST 1 1966 FOR N.Y. I WONDER IF THERE IS ANYBODY WHO HAS A VIDEO OF THAT VOYAGE.

I was a child on the Michelangelo on a westbound passage in summer 1966. I'm so glad I found this so I could again remember the thrill of what is shown at 1:57 - the moment when the two sister ships (Raffaello and Michelangelo) would go screaming by each other in the middle of the Atlantic!!! Screaming? Yes, if there was audio of that moment in this film, people woudn't believe the noise level of that event (two VERY loud sets of horns combined with thousands of cheering passengers!)

Italian liners,from the Principessa Mafalda to Conte Di Savoia to the Leonardo Da Vinci to the Michelangelo and her sister were a visual feast.
