Barbara Kent, the young female actress who appears in this scene, died on 10/13 at the age of 103. At the time of her death, she was believed to have been the only American actor alive to have achieved substantial fame during the silent era as an adult. Flesh and the Devil was made in 1926 and Kent was alive as of 10/13, which was 85 years after the movie was made. That's amazing!
Reply to REGENTTheatreSYDNEY: All films are fake to some degree. But if you see the complete film it is beautifully photographed and well directed by the great Clarence Brown. As for being 'gay' it is a well known fact that John Gilbert fell in love with Greta Garbo whilst making this film.
I never noticed all the childhood things like dwarfs and animals at tables in the conclusion. It is like the whole lot of them were afraid to grow up, and Garbo represented growing up, so she naturally had no place in their world.
Oh, it's great to watch this! thanks so much for posting it!
It's sad how they depicted the modern girls those times... Imagine Garbo dead and the beautiful john gilbert marring that ridiculous young girl... Well, he deserves it...
Seltsam und gnadig! Wudervoll ( Please forgive my Deutsch! ) I have never seen this before. The Divine Garbo, her best silent.
Thankyou for sharing ( when films were real... ) X Penny There is so much forgotten old film and Germany was so ahead of its time and contemparies, with a few exceoptions...
