Back when AC was a crown corporation, the CEO made $300K and the employees were better paid and had a secure pension. Now that it is privatized the CEO are burglarizing the palce, the workers wages are deflating, and the pension is constantly a hostage at risk. Either the government should nationalize it again (not likely), or keep their hands off and let free collective bargaing take care of the inequality. H.

With out sounding like I am taking a shot at the FA's, which I am not, at least they are still the best paid in the country, mind you that says a great deal about the sorry state of wages. But we in the maintenance department who have to have knowledge of a minimum of 5 fleet types and handle more flights than any other airline in this country, are not even in the top 10 in wages any more. Our subsidiary Jazz is better paid than the AC engineers.West Jet is far ahead of us as is TransAt at 82k

@Drboeing1 Actually, they are no longer the best paid. Air Transat has that honour. Maintenance has taken the greater hit. Many of the heavy maintenance checks are outsourced to El Salvador or other locations so wages and working conditions are eroding even faster. WJ and AT make better wages, but for now you still have a better pension , which are wages deferred to the future. This government's back to work bullshit is the real problem. But you're up next, and not afraid to wildcat, I hear !

Unions have built this country. Harper and his Conservative government are literally working with the corporations to steal form the working class. I guess this is what happens when we let our corporations buy out our politicians.

I agree, I fail to see in any of the federal guidelines where Air Canada is an essential service. If it is, then the federal government needs to re-acquire the airline! Otherwise AC is just another private company and the Harper zealots need to keep their fingers out of our business!
