It most likely doesn't, Flemish is one of the oldest languages in Europe whether Dutch was created as a standardization between all the regions in the Netherlands, including Flanders.
Flemish is a cultural inheritage on it's own and deserves it's respect. Maybe, you might find it a language spoken by merely peasants and farmers but it's a rich and humorous language that gives more colour and life in conversations, film and books.

@Tomywho005 It does indeed, Dutch is infinitely much better. I tend to refer to Belgium and it's language as a basterd-child between France and the Netherlands.

@MrValkemade Seriously? I guess you've never been in Belgium, right? The language of the Netherlands and the north of Belgium (Flanders) is almost the same. It's like comparing American and British English. There are only small differences in the pronunciation (and some specific elements of the lexicon). Saying that it's a "basterd-child" between France and the Netherlands is very incorrect.
