Viewed as a disaster when first released and taken by many as an unintentional camp comedy, this film has lately been defended in some critical quarters. A tell-all biography of the legendary star Joan Crawford, based upon the best-selling book by her adopted daughter Christina Crawford, it features a memorable performance by Faye Dunaway as Joan--struggling against her inner demons, a demanding, cruel and abusive mother descending into alcoholism. "...arguably too good to qualify as camp, even if it begins (and fitfully roceeds) like a horror film. Director Frank Perry...gives it all a certain crazed conviction" (Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader).

  • I have heard Christina speak and she doesn't strike me as lying. The idea of child abuse is disgusting and must be heard.

  • She was a bitch in many senses, with a slut reputation, I believe to Christina

  • This is one of those films that disturbs me merely because I simultaneously experience both humour and horror. It's strange...

  • @oooh19 Yes, it sounds absurd, doesn't it? If Joan Crawford or anyone hated wire hangers, you can bet there would be not one in the house. Christina would not have been the one hanging up her own clothes either. The maid would have done that.

  • @oooh19 The movie's a piece of shit. It's based on fake garbage. What do you expect to see in it?

  • freaking out over wire hangers? i mean she probably got those hangers! the little girl couldnt get hangers herself! kids dont buy hangers!

  • '' When i asked you to call me that...

'' i wanted you to mean it .

  • whoa! crazy!
