  • I am from the US & enjoy BOTH. The BBC version is only 8 shows which doesn't give to much time to tell a story. It was more like a Mini-series. The US version will go 17 shows now that ABS has cancelled it. They were able to tell more stories & work slower towards Sam & Annies growing relationship. I just hope the US version ends the same way the BBC version did. Both shows are great. They are set in different lands which will make them different. It is easier for US to relate to NY than England

  • Actually, the BBC version ran for 16 episodes, and if you include the fact that their episodes lasted for 58 minutes as opposed to the American 42, the BBC version lasted longer. Besides, this video is based on the LA pilot, which was absolute pants, compared to the NY version that was generic enough not to be either pants or brilliant. And this is coming from a Norwegian who apparently shouldn't be able to relate to either shows, as I don't live in either country. And wasn't born 36 years ago.

  • Not that I wasn't touched by the BBC LoM, but here are points in favor of giving LoM USA a chance

    a. Annie Norris has a very well executed character arc

    b. No creepy t.v. girl

    c. The story is not only diverging from the BBC one but it's doing it well (ie. side characters appear in scenes without Sam being there suggesting they do have lives apart from his psyche and aries project)

    d. Our Sam won't leave the show after two seasons forcing them to wrap it up before the storytellers are ready to

  • I'll have you know that the creepy Test Card Girl was my favorite on the show.

Also, the story was over after two seasons, it put way too much strain on John Simm (he was in every single scene) and your show got cancelled halfway through the first season, so they do have to wrap it up before they're done.

  • Is it just me or were clips from the unaired pilot used, you know before they put effort into the script and used the original material as a springboard into awesomeness?

  • Those were clips from the unaired pilot, yes.

  • I'm dreading the american version (can you say...Viva Laughlin...?) but this was pure untainted genius XD!!!!!!! Don't worry Simm-Sammy, nobody will ever out pretty-cry you :p Great idea, great vid :D! Thanks for postin' ^.^ (Bonus points for using the John Barrowman inclusive version of this song :o!)

  • UK Sam wins hands down

  • You didn't even have to compare them. When will the Americans understand that Brits simply do it better? And when will the Americans do something on their own without having to steal brilliant ideas from the UK? NOBODY will ever touch John Simm. Or Philip Glenister. Or Liz White.

    And no I'm not British.

  • i tried to watch both versions, i loved my home version (uk) wanted to get into the US version, but i lost the will to do so after 2 episodes, although in episode 1 the towers being there was a major OMG moment.

LoM Uk ended just right, and John Simm has gone on to do equally good stuff, its like faulty towers do enough and stop, unlike Lost , do too much and fade into nothing

  • Whether it was good or bad, the US version of Life On Mars Coul NOT be the same as the British show, they're based in cultures which although similar are also very different. I know you lot already know this, but I thought I'd mention it :)

And as I haven't seen the US version, I can't really comment on it, except for the godawful ending.

  • Well of course the answer is simple - Sam is better than Sam by about a million miles. Sam is portrayed convincingly wheras Sam is just not believable at all. I love Sam and I really can't stand Sam. See, I told you it was simple.

  • UK VERSION WINS, END OF.

  • Just from the clips it's gotta be British Sam. I've only watched UK Life on Mars and wouldn't taint it by watching the other version. I heard about the ending and ...what a load of old BS.

Would love to see a Gene Hunt version, cos he's the man!

  • Simm is way better. UK version wins hands down

  • UK VERSION IS THE BETTEREST

  • That question is easy to answer. Americans would not deal well with the hero suiciding.
