THE COUNCIL STOLE OUR PUBLIC LIBRARY

THE COLAC OTWAY SHIRE COUNCIL BROKE ITS 66% ELECTORAL MANDATE TO STOP THE "JOINT USE SCHOOL LIBRARY"! INSTEAD IT HAS GONE AGAINST THE 66% MAJORITY OF RATE PAYERS IN THE SHIRE WHO SAID NO TO THE "JUL. THE COUNCIL WILL NOW USE THE PUBLIC LIBRARY FOR "OFFICE SPACE" SPENDING HUGE AMOUNTS OF RATE MONEY TO REFURBISH IT FOR THEIR OWN USE, WHILST THE COLAC SECONDARY COLLEGE STUDENTS WILL ENDURE OVER 67,000 VISITS FORM "RANDOM" MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC EACH YEAR.

*PAY 100% PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE
*PAY 50% ONGOING COSTS
*PAY 50% MAINTENANCE COSTS
ON THE "GLOBAL CONNECTOR [SCHOOL OWNED] BUILDING WHICH HOUSES THE "JUL:" ALONG WITH.....
*LECTURE THEATRE
*TEACHER STAFF ROOMS
*STUDENT SICK BAY
*PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE
*STUDENT TOILETS
THE "JUL" IS ONLY PART OF THE GLOBAL CONNECTOR "SCHOOL" BUILDING!
THE "JUL" WILL ONLY HAVE FOUR "PUBLIC USE" COMPUTERS WHICH IS WHAT WE HAVE NOW AND THEY ARE COMING FROM OUR PUBLIC LIBRARY


THERE WILL BE 20,000 LESS BOOKS IN IT!
ANYONE CAN ENTER A "SCHOOL" LIBRARY DURING SCHOOL HOURS!
THE "JOINT USE SCHOOL LIBRARY" = GREAT PLACE TO MEET "KIDS"
WE WILL NOT GIVE IN TO THIS SCAM BECAUSE THE VICTORIAN EDUCATION MINISTER CAN RELEASE THE COUNCIL FROM THE AGREEMENT AT ANYTIME FOR ANY REASON, SO UNTIL COLAC HAS AN "INDUSTRY STANDARD/ FREESTANDING PUBLIC LIBRARY IN THE CBD THE FIGHT GOES ON. THIS IS AN ISSUE ABOUT DEMOCRACY!

The reason Memorial Square appears at the end of the clip?

It is a symbol of DEMOCRACY, something we no longer have here in Colac thanks to Cr. Lyn Russell and Cr. Brian Crook. Cr, Lyn Russell said she would save Colac Library. Cr. Brian Crook said he would "listen to the people" Both Councilors voted to Proceed with the Joint Use Library and indeed caused it to becaome a reality, so much for Democracy!

Allow me to enlighten you, the "big deal" is this:

*The Colac Otway Shire Council along with the Colac Secondary College School Council signed an agreement with the Education Dept to build a Joint Use Library.

*The people of the shire said NO to this project, 5000 petitions and a 66% Election Mandate!  WHY?

*They were NOT asked, this project was FORCED on them.

*The Location

*Forced to mix with School children in their School Library.

*NO new books!

The Joint School Library was forced on us for sure, I signed the petition against closing our original Library and then voted for a Candidate in the 2008 election who said they would stop the Joint Library then once elected they turned gutless and I wasted my vote and I feel I was lied to, I bet I'm not on my own!

i dont see what the big deal was about the library. the new 1 is awesome as and like any 1 goes there anyways. and why the hell did you end the video with the memorial at memorial square???
