That was a truly great recital. The Maestro played twice here in Ambassador a week apart. The ending of the first performance was Chopin's 1st Ballade. And this Scriabin ended the printed program a week later. Both opened with Schumann's "Concerto Without Orchestra", that is, after his "Flower Piece". Horowitz was so wonderful as to wrapping the emotions of his audience, his melancholy Chopin Waltz in a minor was as 'effective' as the coda to the last movement of Rachmaninoff's 2nd Sonata!
Incredible. I couldn't help but notice so many things seemed so similar to the RCA recording of it - especially in part one. I wonder if parts of this performance was used as a master? For instance, I could detect edits in that record which correspond to 1:00 into this rendition. Perhaps somebody knows. Despite some messiness during some climaxes in pt. 2 you can't help but be constantly impressed!

@largolegato
Did he learn this piece as an old man? This is a work very few old pianists can learn and play well.

@brtherjohn Good ears! The RCA commercial recording was largely drawn from this performance and the rehearsal for it.
