Truthful praise! Mali was a genius with total mastery of melody and rhythm at their profoundest. In the flowering of his mastery, the main influence was from the superior music of Nagasvaram greats and Thavil vidwans of those days, which cannot come from vocal music or Mridangam. Yet, Mali ignored Gurus with their highly restrictive adherence to Pathantarams -they vary bet.among Gurus themsleves even for a given composition! -and instead devpd.own Nobelian flute techniques and own melodic style.
