Many musicians tend to think of music in terms like intro, verse, chorus, breakdown, buildup and so on. With the new Blocks mode in Reason 5 and Record 1.5, your sequencer does too.

Blocks lets you sequence your songs using a more pattern-based approach, with the segments of your song as individual building blocks to be laid out in your arrangement.

  • At around 1:28 the video mentions recording external vocals or guitar solo. How is this done? Is the file kept as a vocal track with possible edits in the arrangement window, or do you need to use a sequencer to play the sample back? If I'm planning to record things like vocals or live instruments would I need to use Record 1.5 with Reason instead?

  • @macikosan Yes you would need Record to have audio tracks for things like live instruments. The two programs operate together as a software suite, with Record providing the features you'd want for live recording like audio tracks and the big pro mixer. Reason has all the instruments and synths you'd want for further production. If you have The Record Reason Duo then you can launch Record and all your Reason devices appear inside the one app. But yes, Record is what gives you audio tracks.

  • wow are you fuckin kiddin me, i thought "blocks" was ganna be like the fl studio sequencer, u have the choice of seing the notes, or just usin blocks, its so much easier to arrange a beat tht way, i hate reasons sequencer, thts why i use a mixer to arrange my music, its kinda like playin a live beat, its pretty kool, but ima just stick to reason 4, the new "bloclks" and the kong drum machine isnt worth payin 300 for somethin i already have, and why the hell is recycle there to buy?slicex is free

  • @MARQUEZbeats13 Just so your at least aware of the correct information... blocks is an optional added feature. If you don't like it you just don't use it. There's even a button to turn it on/off. The sequencer functions just like Reason 4 if you want it to. And the upgrade isn't 300. It's $129 and you don't only get blocks and kong. We've added live sampling, kong, blocks, Dr. Octorex, and a bunch of little things too. Take care.

  • @PropellerheadSW Excuse an off topic question. I'm a huge huge fan of Reason, i own Reason 4 and I plan to buy Reason 5 and Duo. But Rebirth..... why don't you throw in the 303 synth in Reason? You already have an awesome produc, i own Rebirth, both as a smart-phone app and the original. But it can't compete with reason when it comes to create more advanced music and that's why the 303 is neded as a synth inside Reason.

I would gladly pay for that and i know I'm not alone about this wish :)

  • @wittenbergdoor i definitely agree, but personally, iv found the blocks option really does help organize everything in your head much better, and makes for a smoother work flow. =]

  • FLStudio's piano roll and sequencer better than reason

  • @PropellerheadSW PLEASE upgrade reason again so i can create rex-loops within reason! that would be so awesome!

  • propellerhead needs to step their game up and release a vst version of reason.

  • @PropellerheadSW lol dont bother, the individual above had far so many slang words, improper spelling, and bad formative grammar issues that it took several rereads to follow what he was trying to say. Your product appears good, hopefully the price on buying 5 will drop a little more. I have NEVER mixed music before and had to do alot of research on music production technology to understand some of the theory behind these tools. Upon wtaching videos, the controls seem very intuitive. Cheers.
