Blake Washburn blames manufacturer MacFarland for his defeat in the race for re-election to the state legislature. He takes over his uncle's newspaper to take on big business as an enemy of the people. Miss Martin works in the "Herald" newspaper office. When tragedy strikes, Blake must re-examine his views.

Ideologically poor, shot well. Monroe is gorgeous even in this tiny role.

there is a now released FBI file on Monroe as a suspected communist. At one part of the file Monroe sought to visit the USSR and asked her manager to make visa inquiries. This channel users respect for Monroe shot up immeasurably after that, perhaps she was indeed more than a shallow and fake north american bimbo, or a Hollywood handjob

This is one of a handful of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer productions of the 1950-1951 period whose original copyrights were never renewed and are now apparently in Public Domain; for this reason this title is now offered, often in very inferior copies, at bargain prices, by numerous VHS and DVD distributors who do not normally handle copyrighted or Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer material.

Marilyn Monroe was often expected to provide her own wardrobe. The sweater with the grey body and black sleeves that she wears worn previously in The Fireball and in the final scene in All About Eve.

The story line was overtly designed to accommodate the corporate backers of the movie, and now it is really only of interest as a look at some common perceptions of its day. The last part of the movie did have the potential for some fairly effective melodrama, but parts of it become rather labored, and it is mainly thanks to Crisp's restrained performance that it remains watchable.

Home Town Story is a 1951 American drama film directed by Arthur Pierson and starring Jeffrey Lynn, Donald Crisp, and Alan Hale, Jr.. The film features Marilyn Monroe in a small, early role.
The film was backed by General Motors to promote their perceived virtues of big business.

I saw this today in Taiwan, after I found a VHS videotape in my room that does not belong to me and i had it made into a DVD to see what it was and then this film played. It appears to be a 1950s propaganda film to promote american capitalism and was paid for by General Motors as a propaganda film. But nice touches and I despite the brainwashing theme, i loved the entire movie

From a sociology viewpoint I saw one Irish-American chaufeur, & nothing but White Anglo-Saxons.I saw plenty of 1950 films in my young age, this was trite & generic. No emotions but some anger. One thing I noticed.Marilyn Monroe could have played other roles except dumb blondes.
