the main gauche or the dirk is a common offhanded parrying (weapon-deflecting) implement featuring a stabbing point. In fencing, everything but actually stabbing someone (hopefully) is reproduced with the offhand weapons used. It is mainly to deflect the opponent's primary weapon but you can score with it too, of course.

so boring, man...

@YdOuUmRb : Fencing in its traditional definition is basically to fight without intent to kill, so yes this is absolutely fencing :) Dagger is a very common off-hand weapon for the European martial arts once they started more commonly using swords designed for single handed use - say mid 16th century or so.
It's very common to salute your opponent before a match, even in practice, but it's usually much simpler than the intro here. Good stuff!

The Blunderer - Is a fencer who strives to hit his adversary by all means, fair or foul, without preparation or opposition. His arm is drawn back of its position, he advances or retreats without necessity, effects a tension on any attack, attempts to execute time-thrusts on simple attacks, beats the blade and changes the engagement without motive.
~ Louis Rondelle, Foil and Saber: a grammar of fencing in detailed lessons for professor and pupil, 1892.
I don't understand the point of the dagger. They aren't using it (from what I can see) to attack, and it doesn't look like it would do much defensively, either. :s

@wazzo12 Actually it does a lot for the defence, it's quite "easy" and doesn't take to mutch of reaction to make the opponents tip miss you. say i how just bull the Rapier fencers as Toothpick fighters ;-)

Do they use real swords in these fights ? If yes what do they do so they won't hurt/kill each other ?

@LSPena777 Hi, a Rapier is a thrust weapon. we have blunted versions with even more rubber on the tip to prevent piercing. the fencers has good fencing jackets that are more or less made for this kind of action :)

I've never seen fencing (I don't know if that's what you would call this) or sword fighting in general using dagger like offhand (almost like a Sai, but without the guard).Interesting to watch.
I was also wondering, is it optional to do that small introduction move set at the begging like they both did, or was it the same as martial arts when they have to bow?

@YdOuUmRb Hi, it's called fencing.
the introduction move is only to be done in the semi/finals
