I agree with you all that their intentions were probably just to joke. But I still don't understand someone who feels any need to diss their idols, its just disrespectful.

They made a statement in an interview that they thought bashing other artists was a "waste of time" and "pointless" and usually out of desperation. I don't think they were being serious, but who am I to say what they're intentions are.

I really have to agree with FutureAbe, he said that in a jokey kind of way, a lot of musicians make those kinds of comments on stage, but they still have tremendous respect for those artists.
