Sometimes a child can see things adults don't see or outright ignore and if more children were like the girl in this song the world would be a better place. I think adults' problems are they have problems of their own and don't want to be labeled as a busy-body or a nosy neighbor. This little girl is a true friend, she sees suffering and tries to help.

in the news a couple of years back, a woman was charged for physically abusing her three children. they were adopted as young toddlers, and one as a baby. she was a doctor, an intelligent woman, with a lovely home. she was a very cruel woman.

turned out she had been not just smacking her kids about, but, burning them, slamming their hands in doors. really hurting them, for 8 years. luckily they were saved.

bad luck, getting shit real parents. and then a horror of an adoptive mother.

it's very hard to tell if a child is being beaten. the family will always try to hide it. and even the child. if the family are poor, and have other social issues, then social services are more likely to notice. and the school.

but it can happen in households where the child has every other need met. rich and what look like respectable parents. in these situations, the parents have the power in society. no one will suspect them of being abusive.

In the song, a member of her family kills Alyssa, after hitting her too hard... she was getting battered at home, by her mum or dad. The dad of Alyssa's new friend is saying, Alyssa died because no one would do anything to stop the abuse. He feels he should have reported the abuse, that his daughter knew about. but it was too late. that's the message of the song. and probably it' the same with the video.
