  • Nice setup! It's very similar to my KAB modified SL1200mk2. Mine is all black with the fluid damper, cardas tonearm rewire, and strobe disabler. I also have a Dynavector 17D3 cartridge on it driving my Aesthetix Rhea phono preamp.

Some folks discount the SL1200mk2 as strictly a "DJ table" which is a big mistake. It's an awesome sounding table that is rugged and easy to use.

I sold my Clearaudio table and decided to keep the Technics SL1200mk2.

  • @voodooaudio Thanks. You've got a kickin' system yourself. I've been looking at the 17D3 for a while. I'm very intrigued with the stylus and may have to try one out. People will say what they will about the 1200; but, it's too late. The cat's out of the bag about how good a table it is and just how far it can be taken. I'll have a new video up soon showing some additional upgrades.

  • Whtat is that great tune please. djsimonyoung@gmail.com Many Thanks.

  • @DJSimonYoung "Papaya" by Urszula Dudziak's from the album, Urszula

  • Nice gear...love the Bottle Head tube gear. Is the KAB fluid damper worth the money?

  • @TheWirewizard Thanks, the Bottlehead gear was well worth the time and effort I put into building it. The KAB Fluid Damper? Your own ears will have to decide whether it's worth it or not. For me, given a stock arm, my preference is to not be without it. (SME optioned one for their S-arms.) To my ear it cleans up the presentation. It seems like it helps with anti-skating, as well. When using a test record, the proper anti-skate setting, and the damper, I get less distortion than without it.

  • @oatstao I Love Flora Purim!

  • Thanks for the reply...I think I'm going to order a fluid damper for my SL1200MKII. I already have one of Kevin's Cherry wood bases and it looks great.

  • @megaohmz There are so many options out there for platter mats: copper, sorbothane, cork, etc. etc. Right now, I use the thicker stock rubber mat (which sufficiently damps the platter) and a DIY soft felt mat on top (so the rubbery sound of the mat doesn't taint the music as much) and the weight. However, the platter itself may be upgraded fairly soon so... who knows? :-)

  • That weight on the LP is a great Idea. Adds mass and keeps the record in place better. Have you tried to use a softer rubber for the mat like silicone?
