Crass.vs.MySpace

This is a track called, "Bata Motel" from the album, Penis Envy. Released in 1981, this was the third LP by anarchist punk band Crass. Named as a reference to some of Freud's ideas concerning sexuality. The album addressed feminist issues and once again attacked the institutions of 'the system' such as marriage and sexual repression. The photograph's compiled in this video were downloaded off of the World Wide Web, and serve two examples. One being, young women are still perpetuating their own repression by giving in to the sexual pressure ever-present in a male dominated society. The second being, a person loses all right to protest as soon as they make a personal image public on the World Wide Web.

As a woman, I want to be able to express myself sexually how Iwant, but I don't want my ONLY VALUE to be my sexuality and sexual organs.

Girls and women get a lot of mixed messages in our society, I'm sure you would agree. Be sexy, but not too much. Be a tease but don't fuck cause then you're a slut. Don't have sex w/ men you're not in a relationship w/ cause then your a slut, but men can and they're not sluts. I think females are very confused...I know I sure was growing up.

In order to be a woman, you really need to just ignore the cliche expectations that society has set for you. Respect yourself as any human should, regardless of their sex...and you'll know personally that you're just fine being exactly who you are.

Thanks I totally agree, but man, it's so dis heartening seeing other women my age, even older, make the decision to ignore that little voice inside that says, "this isn't right, and you don't have to be a part of it." Or simply ignore the choice to be more concious of the world's issues around them.
