http://www.hitfix.com Alan Sepinwall counts down his top ten tv shows of 2010

It's a tradition that critics of all stripes end each calendar year with Top 10 lists. 10 is a nice round number, and a seemingly easy way to separate the best from the rest, but it's a number I've always struggled with. In all the years I've been writing about television, I almost always had to find a way to cheat the confines of 10, whether through ties (often but not always involving thematically-similar shows), more nebulous groupings (in 2001, my #2 entry was "Fact-based movies and miniseries," a particularly shameless canard that allowed me to squeeze in "Band of Brothers," "Boycott," "61*" and a bunch of other strong movies and minis into a single entry), or multiple lists. In recent years, I've done separate lists for new and returning shows, and last December, when working on my Best of the '00s choices, I wound up coming up with a ridiculous 7 different lists encompassing more than 50 different shows.

The argument against my "Everybody gets a trophy" approach is that if you honor everything, than nothing seems special. My feeling has always been that there's so much good stuff on television - particularly over the last 10 or 11 years - that you can still make a clear demarcation between the truly special stuff and the rest even if you go past 10 and into 12 or 15 or even 20.

  • @OddOneOut665 The Walking Dead is an entertaining show, but it is nowhere near as great as Breaking Bad. Breaking Bad's story and characters are much more complex. Also some of the scenes in BB are the most tense I've ever seen on TV.

  • Breaking Bad FTW!

  • This list is spot on

  • @trysis3 Thank you. It's cause people thought the fifth season waqs a decline in quality. Maybe not as good as the 4th, ok, but still great. And for sure better than MAd Men or Boardwalk Empire or Community, or Parks and recreation. Man, those shows SUCK in my opinion. Probably the most overrated shows ever! AHHHHH! I HATE THEM SO MUCH!. Especially Boardwalk and Parks. The two most overrated shows on TV right now.

  • I like community the most. Community FTW!!

  • @IGNsucks THANK YOU! I don't see how people are entertained by Mad Men, it's unbelievably boring, whereas Breaking Bad literally has me on the edge of my seat from the beginning of each episode until 15 minutes after it's even over.

  • @cheeserules24 cause it sucks

  • no its renee

  • where the f*** is DEXTER ?

  • Breaking Bad is the best, Community is the funniest, Mad Men is the most overrated.

  • good choices im a huge breaking bad fan but the first episode of season 4 was a bit dissapointing. I used to like community but just got annoyed with some of the characters and didn't find it that interesting anymore. i really hated that christmas episode.
