Financial institutions have received more than $2.3 trillion in taxpayer-backed loans and other financial assistance from the Federal Reserve. Sanders asked Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke to name the hundreds of banks that took money. Bernanke refused. Sanders called it mind-blowing that trillions of dollars have been placed at risk without anyone outside the secretive Fed knowing who got how much for what. So on Wednesday he asked the Senate to go on record saying the Fed should publish on its Web site information detailing all of the emergency financial assistance it has provided.

  • I WANNA SEE THE RECEIPTS

  • @klinok19 - Nooo! Please don't believe that. The Federal Reserve controls our money but is accountable to NO ONE. The Treasury is part of our government. It borrows money from the federal reserve...A Private Bank that charges our government interest, which our government passes on to us. When ever the government talks about handing out ANYTHING, you better believe there are going to be some taxes along with it. The government does not really make money. It spends waaaay more than it makes.

  • @damerz0405 - But, correct me if I'm wrong--we still have to pay the interest on those money loans by way of our taxes. That's why Sanders is referring to us as taxpayers.

These two entities are performing what would otherwise be a physically impossible feat: The federal reserve is in bed with the treasury department, but is able to screw us all in the process...amazing.

  • Don't be fooled by this fraud, people. When push came to shove, Sanders caved into pressures from corporate and Fed interests. He voted against the Fed Audit bill, S. 604, "Federal Reserve Sunshine Act". Bernie Sanders is a sellout.

  • @goorgee Ron Paul

  • I think I disagree with Sanders on one point... the money doesn't belong to the American people, it belongs to the private owners of the federal reserve. They can create the money out of thin air or do whatever they like with it and apparently we have no business knowing about it.

  • Why do we have politicians that are so uneducated? Not a dime of the money by the Fed was tax payer money. it is not debt, only the money overspent by the congress is debt.

  • You can bet your ass you will find it is Israel.

  • Thank you, Mr. Sanders!

To all who thinks Federal Reserve is a private entity - it's simply not true. Federal Reserve is a part of US government, and as such is accountable to American people.
