@19vrats89 The interview was done in 1988 for a documentary series that was broadcast on PBS in the States. I just googled population information and sixty million seems right for that year. It's too bad for the Philippines that family planning hasn't taken hold.

@pinoyPhilosopher I guess ALEJANDRO LICHAUCO is one of the many chinese business men enjoying business in the Philippines like Lucio Tan. All those things he mentioned the Philippines cannot produce, simply because, since the period before Magellan was killed by Lapilapu, the chinese traders already supplied almost everything the filipinos needed. And it was sold cheaper because the chinese traders don't pay taxes. And most of their products are made of cheap materials.

It is just sad to realize that we really have a massive dependence on importation....i think it's a very difficult challenge for us to compete against those bigger players who have already established a larger progress like Japan and other countries
