Having suicidal thoughts while depressed is completely normal. There is nothing wrong with having them as long as you don't act on them. When my depression was at its worst, not a moment went by without my mind thinking of suicide. In fact, when the suicidal thoughts began to disappear was one of the first signs that I was getting better.
I think you've put far too much pressure on yourself because the doctors you have aren't helping you to understand depression.

It's been quite a series of ups and downs for you. I would prefer that you go back into the hospital one more time than let something overtake you. You're doing the best you can. Tom, you are true trooper. Keep doing the awesome job, man, I know it doesn't always feel awesome.

Amytriptiline ia one of the first antisepressants and it has a sedatory which used to put me to sleep- it worked wonders for me and I dont think the side effects are as severe- good luck-Richard
