Daniel Klein, economist at George Mason University, offers his answer to the Davos Question, saying that drugs approved in Canada, Britain, and other places gain automatic approval in the United States. The drug-approving agencies of recognized countries would become more responsive to the needs of humanity. The proposal is called Drug Approval Denationalization.

Economists agree that drug approval should be liberalized.

  • @Davidg129 Yep, and it just got worse. Part of the deal to get Big Pharma's support for the new healthcare bill was giving drug companies what is essentially perpetual patents on the newer biological drugs. No more cheap generics of new drugs after a few years of profit. And with the same government that paid for $500 hammers now paying for drugs, the drug companies can happily gouge as much as they want.

  • Almost a decade later...I still 100% agree with you Professor Klein.

    Thank you always.

  • boringggggggg video, sure its an okay idea, but the video SUCKS

  • Very interesting idea; I think he's on to something. This could drive prices of medications way down.

  • nice enthusiasm

  • Wouldn't you think the politicians would support this idea? Oh yeah, thats right it would mean less profits for the drug manufacturers and hence less money for our government officials.

  • That does seem like a good idea.
