Seve Ballesteros Curses the Virgin Mary Live During a Golf Match

--PLEASE NOTE--

Several people have commented and e-mailed me that I misunderstood what Seve says here in Spanish. Instead of saying, "Dios...te hice una puta, Virgen Maria!" (God...I made you a bitch, Virgin Mary"), he actually says, "Dios santisimo y la puta Virgen Maria!" which translates to, "Holy God and the bitch Virgin Mary."

I stand corrected. However, this should prove that I didn't overdub Seve's voice on this video, as several of you have suggested.

Seve Ballesteros says some very derogatory language in Spanish during a match against Paul Azinger on Shell's Wonderful World of Golf.

I guess none of the censors at the Golf Channel speak Spanish.

I'm assuming you called me an asshole, but that's okay. I won't insult you back, but I will just say that he has a microphone on his collar. During these Wonderful World of Golf shows, the golfers wear mics so the viewing audience can hear their comments.

Once again, I repeat to anyone who watches this video, I did NOT doctor this video in any way or put in a voiceover. I'm not trying to insult Seve Ballesteros. I just heard it one day while watching the match on TV, and I uploaded it here.

He said "DIOS SANTISIMO Y LA PUTA VIRGEN MARIA." Obviously it's not a nice thing to say but it's a common vulgar expression in spanish speaking countries. Translated (close enough) "God Almighty and the f'in Virgin Mary" Puta does mean bitch, but it's use here is closer to the way we use "fuckin" - The PUTA part is not directed at either GOD/Virgin Mary. It's like saying New York "Fuckin" City -- you're not cursing the city, it's a way to emphasize it the next word.

What he says is: "Dios santísimo y la puta virgen María", which means "Holy God (in English Jesus would be more appropiate), and the Mother F%&$*@ virgin Mary".

You are welcome, and like the Spaniard said in another comment. No big deal, it is very common to swear like that in Spain.

I am Spanish. We talk like that. No problem whatsoever. Spanish is far more "flowery" than English. Moreover, he certainly does not say what you wrote, simply because it makes no sense whatsoever in Spanish--certainly there's something about "Dios" and "puta Virgen Maria", words I would not mouth in front of my grandmother... but once again, no Spaniard (particularly from the North, as him and myself) would be struck by that...
