I forgot to mention the Greeks, but of course as we all know their effort in the war lead to the saying that Greeks do not fight like heroes, heroes fight like Greeks.

I heard John perform this live. The emotion in his voice was absolutely amazing. Left a lot of tears in a lot of people's eyes.

The americans did a lot of good things in WW2, thats right! But they even did very bad things like: Hiroshima, Nagasaki. If you talk about the good things with so much damned bigheaded arrogance, dont forget to remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki with huge meekness!! We germans learned our lessons, hard and rough! What when will you learn?

My grandfather pulled "clandestine operations" for the United States government in WWII. He was in the Argonne Forest at one point.
what exactly is bullshit about this song? its basically saying without people fighting for freedom, freedom is lost. and yes, without US involvement in ww2, the allies would have almost definitely lost. of course we didnt join until 44, but we were supplying the allies long before that. either way this song isnt a fucking ww2 debate. i personally dont believe in god, but i still say this is a damn good song. if for no other reason than it makes me feel something positive.

@autopsy87 agreed, but so you know we joined in 1941 after Pearl Harbor
But it is a good song and you pegged it right on the nose it is about people fighting for freedoms, i just wanted to make sure you got your years right so down the line you dont say 44 to someone and get degraded from having the years wrong.
